Kaza also known as Kaze, Karze, Karzey is a hidden gem of Himachal Pradesh. Situating at 12,500 ft above the sea level this place is referred as a “Little Tibet”. Surrounded by gigantic mountains range this is one of the quite places of India and great for those who wants a peaceful adventure. This place offers some best off-bit places with picturesque surrounding which is just picture-perfect.
Being a coldest desert of India the weather of Kaza remains cool throughout the year. During winter the temperature drop to minus and becomes so freeze. From the end of October to June this place becomes frozen desert. During this time this place experiences heavy snowfall. The month of January is recorded as a coldest month of Kaza, where the temperature drops to -37oC. Entry points like Rohtang Pass and Kunzum Pass, which are the main entry points of Kaza, remain close this time. But during summer time, between May to October when temperature is around 13oC , weather becomes pleasant. And this is a comfortable time for sightseeing and enjoying the view of this gorgeous place. But do not forget to carry woollen items in this also. Because no matter how summer time it is, the bone-chilling cold wind blows here all the time.

1. Key Monastery – the only largest monastery of Kaza, situating at the altitude of 4,166 this buddhist monastery is in the district of Lahul & Spiti. Its current architecture is evidence of repeated external attacks. This monastery has a collection of rich art & crafts.
2. Chandra Taal – this crescent shaped lake, situating at the altitude of 4,300 meters, is famous among tourists. One of the special thing about this place is that the colour of water changes during the day time. This place best for trekking also.
3. Baralacha Pass – this breathtaking pass of Zanskar range of Mountains is a tremendously challenging trek for adventure lovers. Other tan trekking this place is also ideal for camping and mountain biking.
4. Kunzum Pass – situating at the altitude of 4,551 meters above the sea level this is one of the popular pass of India. It is one of the highest motorable mountain pass of India. The view of the magnificent Bara-Shingri Glacier, which is the second largest glacier of the world, can be seen from here. This pass has come 15 crazy precarious hairpin bends which is very challenging even for most experience drivers.
5. Pin Valley National Park – located near Spiti region of Himalayan range this sanctuary is a habitat of rare variety of flora and fauna. From siberian ibex, snow leopard, some twenty more kinds of medicinal plants to some rare birds like snowcock, snowflinch etc are found here. This place is very popular for trekking because of its rough terrains .
6. Suraj Taal Lake – situating just below the Baralacha Pass this is the 3rd highest lake of India. This lake gets it water from the glaciers of Baralacha Pass. This place being a high altitude region has some beautiful view of mountains and because of its rough terrains this place is popular for hikers.
7. Sakya Tangyud Monastery – located in the Komic Village is one of the high altitude gompas of the whole region. The scenary around here is very beautiful as it is located within the range of Kibber Wildlife Sanctuary. This place is great for learning about Buddhism.
8. Gandhola Monastery – this 8th century monastery , located at a hill near the righteous confluence of Chandra and Bhaga, is the oldest monastery which is established by Padmasambhava. This place is popular for the wooden idols instead of stone.
9. Kibber Village – one of the high altitude village of this region which is popular for monastery and wildlife sanctuary, this sanctuary is a home for near about 30 snow leopards . Less than 1000 family live here.
10. Dhankar Lake – this high altitude lake is another most visited tourist destination of Kaza. The water here is so clear that it reflects the changing colour of the sky. This phenomena attracts lots of tourists as well as photographers.
Another famous thing about Kaza other than having such a beautiful mesmerizing surroundings is that its hypnotic night view. Kaza in night will give you once in lifetime kind of experience. Situating at such a high altitude and being a remote area without any light or sound pollution the stars of the sky come closer. The glimmering of thousands of stars is a magical experience to have. If luck is with you, you can not only star gaze but even spot the Milky Way along with some Shooting Stars too.
