A very popular place in North Bengal is Jaldapara Forest. This place is situated at the foothills of east part of the Himalayas and on the banks Torsa River which is in Alipurduar, district of West Bengal. In 1941, this forest range became a preserve wildlife sanctuary under the protection of Govt of India.

This place which is an extension of Dooars is very popular among tourists and also by bird lovers, wild life photographers, wildlife enthusiasts. This largely dense forest is very well accessible tourist destination point. Anyone can reach here by any form of transport. If you are coming by plane then your nearest airport will be Bagdogra airport and from there you can take a cab or take a bus to Jaldapara via Siliguri. If you are coming by train the closest station is Madarihat or else you can book a car on rental to reach there.

This is a very dense forest. It is the habitat of many wildlife. A major feature of the place is that it is the home to the Rhinoceros Unicornis. It is the second largest home for the severally endangered one-horned Rhinoceros. Also this is a home for barking deer, swamp deer, leopards, hog deer, elephant and tiger. This place is also very popular among bird lovers. This dense forest is home for many different kinds of birds. It is one of the rare places where the Bengal Florican bird can be sighted.

– spreads across 216km, this national park is the most visited and popular place of North Bengal. This place is covered with vast grassland. This one of the dense forest and habitat of many wild animals and birds.

– located 11km away from Jaldapara this national park is also known as the Leopard Rehabilitation Center. In this park there is a place called Madarihat towards Birpara where elephants can be frequently spotted. Battery driven cars are there which can take you on a tour of the park. – this famous tourist spot is operated by the Govt of West Bengal. It is difficult from here to watch wild animals but there is a watch tower where you can get a close view of the nature.

You can roam around through the Jaldapara National Park either by taking Jeep Safari or by taking Elephant Safari. The pricing of Jeep Safari is INR 450 per person and pricing of Elephant Safari is INR 800 for Indians and INR 1000 for foreign nationals. Please note that you cannot pre-book Elephant safari, you have to book it on spot. The best time to visit here would be from September 15th to June 15th. Throughout the monsoon due to heavy rainfall the park remains closed. So it is best to avoid monsoon season.
